Here is a surprisingly effective way of generating integer sequences, and date ranges on sql server.
This source code is also available at github

First we need a function that generates the numbers from 0 to 99.

ALTER FUNCTION [dbo].[Nums100]

Then use above function to create an IntRange-function

and use then create a DateRange function that utilizes the IntRange function:

ALTER FUNCTION [dbo].[DateRange]

(

@dateStart datetime,

@dateStop datetime

)

RETURNS TABLE

AS

RETURN

(

select DATEADD(DAY, tal, @dateStart) [date] from IntRange(0, DATEDIFF(day, @dateStart, @dateStop))

)

Use these functions like this (upper limit is 1 million rows):

select * from IntRange(710000, 820000) order by tal

select * from DateRange('1867-09-06', getdate()) order by date
