[Update 22nd Sep 2005, 1042 hrs IST]: Thanks to surfing, the problem was with virtual PC and installing SP1 solves the problem.Way to go surfing! Have a great day :)

[Update 9th Sep 2005, 1013 hrs IST (GMT +0530 hrs)]: I had previously downloaded the iso file through BitTorrent, now I am planning to download from the site directly. For readers info, my checksums are put in the comments section of this post.

[Update 8th Sep 2005, 1807 hrs IST (GMT +0530 hrs)]: Came across a link titled "824513 - How to Install a Linux Virtual PC " in two of technet pages (Microsoft Virtual PC Overview , TNT1-155: A Technical Overview of Microsoft Virtual PC SP1 version ) but sadly they end up at a "The Knowledge Base (KB) Article You Requested Is Currently Not Available" page.

Recently downloaded the freespire (Free Linspire not squiggle) version of Linux and tried booting it up with Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, it just stops at the booting screen. I tried choosing both the install on local hard disk option and live boot option, but no luck yet. Has anyone had any luck in running linspire on a MS VPC 2004? will love to hear a solution.

Interesting...

I was able to install the Freesire/Linspire 5.0.59 on VPC 2004 SP1 with no problems. Worked first try with no tweaking.

I mounted the downloaded ISO in VPC, picked the local harddrive install and it just worked...

I wonder if your downloaded ISO is jacked somehow?

Hi Greg,
Thank you for the feedback, can you kindly let me know if the MD5 checksum for your iso is "553C1511ED6E4BEE8DE40A8BE6429B02" and SHA1 is "28648E88EF170C1F28792260E630749C666044EF". Please note that both are given in Hexadecimal encoding. Thanking you in advance.

Yep, my ISO matches both of those values.

I guess it's not your ISO then...

I have the same problem when I try the 'INSTALL or UPDATE linspire...' & 'RUN Linspire directly...' options and they both get to the boot screen and hang with just one notch in the progress bar.

When I choose 'ADVANCED Options' > 'RUN Diagnostics' the screen gets stuck at this message:

Call Trace:
[<c01010d8>] cpu_idle+0x38/0x60
[<c037871e>] start_kernel +0x16e/0x1b0
Code: 88 1a 00 eb 89 f6 56 53 fb ba 00 e0 ff ff...
<0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill the idle task!

I have tried a couple of other versions of linux and keep getting the 'Kernel panic' message.

Any ideas?
