The year has come and gone.  We've just completed the celebration of Christmas in our new home with our new daughter -- she's almost one now!

Work is still going well.  I'm working on the replacement to VisiWatch again after a long departure to work on some internal workflow fixes and changes.  I've also made some good headway into eliminating some of the legacy Access databases and I've set SQL Reporting Services although right now it's not doing anything in production mode.  We've upgraded some things here and there that I'll eventually build into our Intranet site, but that's just a twinkle in my eye right now.

Our replacement for VisiWatch was comissioned, because SoftBrands is not putting time or effort into the upkeep of the application -- its basically over ten years old from a technology standpoint.  The technology that I'm putting into the replacement involves Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Workflow Foundation (WF).  I installed Visual Studio 2008 when it was released and I've been enjoying getting used to LINQ and some of the other pluses such as extension methods (which I originally didn't think I'd like).

For those that don't know me I'm a programmer at heart.  I enjoy sitting down with code.  In fact, the only things I enjoy more are spending time with my wife and daughter and off-roading with my Jeep.  Both of which I can do at the same time when my daughter gets a bit older.  Now if I could just do all three at once!  Right now my Jeep is more or less in stock form.  I've upgraded the bumper and added a winch and some rocker protection.  The suspension lift and bigger tires will come hopefully in the not too distant future.  I've hit some fun trails in the Chattahooche National Forest including Beasley Knob OHV.

This year hopefully should be a good year.  I should have the replacement to VisiWatch done unless I get allot of maintenance things that need to be done again, but that after all is the meat.  I have four other filler projects on my schedule including one involving weight calibration for a repack line, some changes involving how information is provided regarding die setup, and a palletization workflow.

I still struggle coming up with personal projects.  But, on the creative side I am working with ProShow Producer to come up with a fun DVD slide show of my daughters first year.  I find that it works a different part of my brain then programming.
