The Benefit of the new Longhorn Scope
Disclaimer: I wish for these posts not to come off “whiney“ or with too much complaining. I love what work I do, and I love the field I am in. I am simply using this blog as a resource in which to “vent“ or express my opinions since it is *my* blog after all. So, this is really venting, nothing more, nothing less..... Okay, my last post about the new scope of Longhorn tended to come off a little close-minded methinks. That was not the intention I was going for. Of the new ......

New Email
If you need to get a hold of me directly (I know the contact form can be broken from time to time), you can email me at jolson88 AT gmail DOT com. Once I use it more and potentially start getting some invitations, I will most likely pass them out through this blog. Stay tuned....

What's up with that?

While I'm back to this “just sharing my feelings while not caring about how much *good* content is in my blog”, I thought I would just share this little thought that I had while looking at the new design of the Microsoft homepage:

When did gradients become the next [marquee] and flashing text of the Internet age?

Will Longhorn Still Be Longhorn?
I know it is really premature to even start discussing this, but I would like to ask the question: “Will Longhorn still be Longhorn”? Although the official announcement isn't slated until later today, there has already been some musings about the subject over at Microsoft Watch. How do I feel about this? Mostly, I feel a great sadness (and I remind you: I know this is premature). [DrasticallyPrematureDiscus... It is starting to look like Longhorn will become “Windows XP version ......

CP/M Source - Some Assembly Required :D
Howdy Doodie :). After finishing Charles Petzold's book Code, getting some experience writing assembly code, and in preparation for my XGameStation incursions, I found myself to be a little curious to how certain low-level elements of an operating system works (like the whole bootstrap process, the BIOS, etc.). Knowing just how low my chances were to find any source code for MS-DOS, I decided to look for some source code for the OS that inspired the creation of MS-DOS's predecessor, CP/M. To my pleasant ......

Well, the XGameStation is finally finished. I was starting to wonder if it was ever going to come out. I've been excited about this for a long time. Not only do you have a console you can program against, but it is built in a such a way to be a hobbyist console that also teaches you how consoles work in the first place. Considering that I was never into computers when others were having their first C64 or AppleII moments, I have a feeling that this baby is going to cause me to have many late nights. ......

I'm back
Hey all, I'm back from Jazz Camp. Jazz Camp was a truly wonderful experience yet again. All the students were fantastic to work with and I was truly pleased to have the pleasure of sharing the stage with the wonderful Duffy Jackson. I can safely say that I am truly refreshed and ready to get back to cranking. It might take a couple of days to catch up with things, but expect to hear more from me after that. Thanks!
