This is a pilot podcast to accompany the fortnightly MSDN Flash newsletter. I would appreciate feedback on what you liked and what you didn’t – and even whether you managed to make it through the 20minutes.

Things I already plan to do:

  • More formally split the podcast into sections (Fresh Discovery, User Group, Tip etc)
  • Add music/sounds – especially to introduce the sections
  • Host it “properly” :-)
  • Make it podcast subscriber friendly – via Itunes etc
  • Full show notes for each episode
  • Include interviews with the authors of the article etc

I am very keen to hear what you think about the style, length, content, overuse of the word “interesting” (!),  use of snipurl etc. If nothing else – can you place where I am originally from? :-)

Most importantly, I hope you enjoy it and learn something useful.

The podcast is 20minutes long and 14mb (< 1minute download). Currently hosted on skydrive…

Podcasts on Skydrive (007 onwards available on ITunes)

Just a note. The link to the file (mp3) was not available in Google Reader.
Might want to fix that as well.

I've started subscribing to podcasts via RSS and find this very handy, would be good if you could set this up too. Not listened yet, but will do! Thanks.

Hi Matt - have added a normal hyperlink for google reader.

Hi Andy - yep, when this goes live it will have an RSS feed for the show + an ITunes channel. Its just the pilot that is "clunky" :-)

Hi Eric,

I listened to this walking to work - sound was nice and clear (you passed the traffic test) - and the length was good too.

I liked the format - I subscribe to MSDN Flash and your blog, but I often skim the links in the Flash as I'm usually in the middle of something. The podcast format is great as (a) I can pay attention when I'm walking and (b) it's nice to have an explanation of _why_ I should be interested in something (an elevator pitch if you like).

Prime example for me - I associate the words "free eBook" with either sample chapters or dull "advertorials" so I originally skipped that one - but when I realised via podcast it was more of a "best of" I was more interested.

One little annoyance - listening to all the URLs in the podcast - I bet many people listen away from the PC, so URLs are just noise. Having a list of links on the site (like you have above) is way more useful. About halfway through you started just giving the end part of the URL, which was more bearable.

Overall - really liked it - and will subscribe once it's in iTunes.

I listened to it in my car and at my desk & there was an annoying hiss. Also, some parts sounded a bit as if you'd recorded them in a kitchen or something (lots of reverb which is distracting for just spoken word)

I agree with Stu - reading the links for each item is unecessary, just have one meta-link and let people click through from there.

That said, it was really good, bring on the next one!
