SSAS: Office 2007 - breaks the calculation tab in BIDS

This probably does not apply to many people yet, but If you have installed the RTM of Office 2007 and don't yet have SP2 of SQL 2005 installed, then your calculation tab in the cube designer is probably broken.

This issue may manifest itself in other ways too, its just that I knew this had been an issue during the beta cycle of office thanks to Reed at the Hitachi Consulting blog. There are details here http://sqlug.be/forums/339/ShowThread.aspx#339 on how to fix this issue.

Basically it looks like the Office 2007 install put the SP2 versions of msmdlocal.dll and msmgdsrv.dll into the %Program Files%\Common Files\System\Ole DB folder.

Your choices are to either upgrade to SP2 (which is still only in CTP at the moment) or to replace the two affected files with a copy from somewhere like %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE.

Upgrading to SP2 is probably the way to go once SP2 has been released. For the short term I have gone down the "copy dlls" path, but be warned, you do this at your own risk.

[Update 19 Nov 2006] Mosha pointed out in a comment that there is actually an official hotfix out for this issue http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/926421  and that this is also documented in the Excel readme file.
