Ok, here's the pitch... get ready...

it's a tank game, without tanks... oh I already told you that? Ok, how about this, you're a wizard fighting another wizard with spells and monsters. (ok technically the monsters come from spells, but you get the idea.)

You're in a 2D maze (topdown view) with no entrance or exit. (This is not Room-Passage-Room like HA!)
This is arcade style, not turn based (like HA!)

- You can move and cast spells.
- Some spells summon monsters (which will wander around and attack the other wizard for you)
- Some spells are offensive (like lightning or fire bolts)
- Some spells are defensive (like shields or walls)

Energy consumption:
- Different spells use different amounts of energy to cast.
- Being attacked by monsters or spells also drains energy.
- Certain powerups will replenish energy
- Once energy hits 0... you die.

- Keyboard: Arrow keys, Ctrl & Alt keys
- Gamepad: thumpab and buttons (will this require DX?)

- as player progresses, enemy wizard will get more energy points to use, and possibly faster.
- possibility of multiple enemy wizards at higher levels

- Win Form
- GDI+

If there's time:
- network/internet play
- 2 player head to head (via 2 controllers)
- music Posted on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 10:50 AM Game Development , General Interest | Back to top

Wohoo! An update! Sounds awesome, looking forward to giving it a go. Since you're using VB and not C# like some other noob I know, you'll be done in just a few days right?

I dunno, Mr. PTO might have an initial jump on me. We'll see.

He only needs that PTO so he can take the tedious time converting those awesome VB games he found into his "precious" C#.

Plus, he's going to waste his remaining time making diagrams about messaging systems and at some point he's going to get distracted and start dreaming about tanks.

DAMN! Boy did I miss a thread? We'll see whose laughing in a week or so!

By the way Chris, you every going to _START_ writing code for this game?

You do realize that one of the three criteria in the contest is the blogging quality right? You realize that means you have to actually _WRITE_ something about what you're doing, right? I just feel it is my civic duty to point these things out to you as you VB-guys have problems with these basic things, like reading...
