Brian Scarbeau Insights from a seasoned Computer Science Trainer
Tech night 07 was a great success at Lake Highland Prep. There were close to 50 students and parents in attendance to listen to Tom Carbone who is the Technical Director at the Florida Interactive Academy in Orlando. Tom has many years of game programming experience working for Microsoft and Electronic Arts and other companies as well. He spoke on how math and science are used to create video games. Tom spoke about mathematics and the skills programmers must have to create games. His emphasis on Algebra and Trignometry with his examples was great. He also mentioned how Geometry is used and that learning Calculus would be important as well. Tom brought along his student Rodger who is from Holland. Rodger developed a game for a class he was taking and shared the development stages of making the game and how he had to change the design during the process because the physics of the game was not correct. Students learned a great deal more about the process of game development. Joe Healy from Microsoft Corporation spoke about the new features of VISTA. This talk was very timely. Microsoft Corporation donated an XBOX 360 to give away as a door prize Posted on Friday, February 2, 2007 12:22 PM | Back to top
