Andy Johns' Blog Andy's twisted brain....

So I changed my browser defaults to Firefox and I'm giving it a whirl full time....

I've been Firefox user for a while now, but it's always been a limited thing for specific tasks, now with correct configuration of IE Tabs plug in and a few others I've decided to give it a go full time and use nothing but Firefox and see what happens...

One thing I've already noticed that I didn't in my more limited use was I really prefer IE's Favorites handling to Firefox's Bookmarks. IE in may ways is playing catch-up to Firefox/Mozilla, but with Favorites Firefox could learn a thing or two....

Why do I need to open up a separate dialog to move my bookmarks around? Drag-drop baby, it's simpler, and more fluid.... An WTF is with the "Open In Tabs" option? God forbid I hit that sucker by accident an all my current tabs are blown away and replaced by who-knows how many other tabs in that bookmark folder. Stupid...

Sorting.... Ugh. A dozen options, but what I really want is folders on top, and let me drag-drop the order.... Alpha is nice, but rarely useful, order added is fine until you switch machines, then everything is messed up.... Nah, just give me drag-drop and I'd be happy. The current dialog is clunky in the extreme.

Oh, in other news this is my first blog post using Windows Live Writer.... We'll see how it goes ;)

Interesting: the Windows LiveWriter spellcheck includes Mozilla but not Firefox..... ;) And why did they make the spellcheck Shift-F7 instead of the Office standard F7?!

Personally, I prefer Firefox bookmarks, but I think that's partially because I feel like I have more control. Maybe this is misplaced, but I'm strange like that :-P

I'm with you 200% on drag 'n drop and sorting, tho. You can drag to the bookmarks toolbar, which I use, but that's about it. As for the Open in Tabs option, I think that's awesome! I love it. It gives you a chance to save all your current page URLs and pick up where you left off later. That's a great feature. All you need to do is specify that they should be opened in new tabs. If you don't have it, get Tab Browser Prefs and check the Features tab for the "Overwrite open tabs when loading tabbed bookmarks". This should give you what you're looking for. Trust me, I wouldn't use Firefox bookmarks at all if it always reused my tabs.

Thanks for the tip about Tab Browser Prefs, I'll have to check it out...
