Enterprise Architecture by Ahsan Alam

It's hard to imagine a large scale application without a database. Quite often, an application is not only dependent on databases native to itself; but also to other databases within an organization. It is not uncommon to see developers getting too focused on the database design and changes when it comes to application architecture. Database design is important; however, it should not be the determining factor for the application architecture. Developers should not deviate from the needs, the rules and the guidelines associated to the business. If we can focus on the key rules, the application and the database design can evolve independently. Thus we can make systems relatively loosely coupled. If the application and the database dependency is very tightly bound, we end up building inflexible systems.
