You should definately check out this Joystiq article about Castle Crashers, which could be one of the best games every on XBox Live Arcade. However, I must raise my ire at a comment made in the article about rules concerning who can post in a contest for a CC shirt. And I quote: The contest is limited to US entrants only, mainly because we don't want to ship anywhere else WTF?! I think its time that we reminded our fellow American friends that shipping to countries BORDERING you isn't all that much ...
Engadget reports: Nothing official or anything, but the folks at GamesIndustry.biz are catching wind from their retail pals that Microsoft is prepping to drop their HD DVD drive in the UK this November for £199. Added to the current price of an Xbox 360 Premium in the UK the total price comes to £478, compared to the PS3's £425 asking price in the UK. The good news is that sources also suggest Microsoft is planning on selling a bundle of the HD DVD drive and Premium 360 for £400 or even possibly ...
Schism Alright there it is in all of its mighty glory. Open Source Schism! Do whatever you guys like with it and btw, sorry about the lack of comments. But you oughta be happy with what's there if it helps because my code required a huge amount of cleaning haha. I must have spent 4 hours just cleaning it up. Oh well, let me know if it's any good. Requires 2 XBox 360 controllers unless you change it to keyboard which shouldn't be very hard to program quick ...
It's been delayed a week, but the classic side scrolling shooter Scramble will be heading to the Xbox Live Arcade! Scramble and I go back....way back...to like the early 80's, but not in its arcade, color form. That's right, I'm talking Scramble for Vectrex baby! All angled-line based graphics and a color overlay...that system kicked ass! D ...
I downloaded the latest Windows Vista (Build 5536) this evening and installed it. I am very impressed by how much this build has improved. I was absolutely floored when I saw a pop-up baloon come up from the taskbar that said 'A Media Extender has been Found' when the Xbox 360 in my house was turned on...so I was a good geek and investigated this message. Wow! Vista automatically connected to the 360 as an extender (after entering the Xbox's 8 digit extender code) and now I am seeing Windows Media ...
Well, after all the hype of yet-another-Microsoft-viral... their latest teaser site, NotForNoobs.com, turned out to be a hype builder for a gaming mouse, and not for the Zune or the Xbox 360. The big news is that they've teamed up with Razer for this one, and the result is the Habu, a high-precision, 2,000 dpi laser mouse with interchangeable side button panels, high speed motion detection, and the ability to adjust DPI on the fly. Oh, and it's wired, too, doesn't sound like they're ...
Engadget has another news piece about the upcoming Zune. Feel free to read it here, but the cool part is below: you'll be allowed to "loan" songs to other users for a day, which they can proceed to buy from the Zune music store, and you'll also be able to stream music to a WiFi-enabled Xbox 360, but we're not sure if a hard drive will be required to pull it off. Say what you like about DRM, the thought of being able to loan someone a song for a single day (thus encouraging them to purchase it if ...

I've been keeping my ear to the ground about this “Affordable” development kit for xbox 360. They are releaseing an “express” edition for free! Hope I don't cause 3 red lights!!!!

Now that my XBox is in my grubby little hands, I just wanted to take the time to say thanks for putting together such a fun contest. It was a lot of fun making Bob the Fish and I really enjoyed watching the progress and development arcs of all the other competitors. So congratulations to everyone who took the time to compete. I hope we get to have another go at a contest with each other in the future, the banter and the support was just simply wonderful and the contest a whole heckuva lot of fun! ...
I never bought an iPod - not that I hate it - but I just don't feel like giving my money to Apple nor do I want Apple's sales to go up by 1. Not that I didn't observe/use the device - I played around with enough generations of iPods among work and friends to know whats good and whats bad about it - compared it with my Playsfor Sure devices for years. Today the time has come as we announce Zune, the wait will soon be over. All that speculation that Microsoft is working on an iPod rival are true - ...
I am continuing to love listening to my XBox blog about how I treat it. I don't know what the community response is to this site, but personally I love it. It gives me a grin a day!

Now here is a fun site. Anyone with an XBox 360, XBox live account and running game tag can ‘hear’ the voice of their XBox! In fact what it really is, to be fair, is a blog for your XBox in true journl form!

The more you play the more the blog has to say….

Just started mine at: http://www.360voice.com/blog.asp?tag=Denzilot

http://blogs.msdn.com/asteb... I've been running Vista beta 2 on my laptop for the last 3 weeks. It's pretty good, but it's still buggy enough that I have a hard time being productive on it. I'm putting XP pro back on this afternoon.

I'm really looking forward to the Windows Mobile Center and I like the new network connections interface and that it found our Xbox when we plugged it into the network. It ran pretty snappy on my laptop (2gb, centrino) and I look forward to the Release to Market version.

So now my Xbox 360 has a blog of its own, and apparently it's not thrilled with me of late. Seems I've been neglecting it... but fortunately I did spend a little quality time with it last night, so the relationship (and my pathetic gamerscore) is improving. I also decided to add my Xbox Live GamerCard to the sidebar of my blog, but the one generated on my 360 blog is too big for the GWB skin I'm currently using (it pushes the border out and crops my blog text) and looks awful when I shrink it down ...
Congratulations is in order for George Clingerman who produced Bob The Fish and ultimately winning the Geekswithblogs.net Game Design Contest. George's game had great game play and the code is of very high quality. Congrats George and your XBox will be sent out shortly. However, this was the hardest contest I have ever judged. John and I split the judging up into different categories we were both having a tough time picking a winner. These games are awesome! Aside from George, John and I want to ...
GamerScoreChart converts your XBox GamerScore in to a chart that updates itself over time with the history of your score. You can also add it as a URL link or as a flair to your webpage or blog. Here is an example with my GamerScore. And of course, my Xbox continues to blog about me – and complain a lot too! Its very funny and I actually found myself making time to play out of guilt! ...
I have two network adapters in my home computer. One goes into my cable modem and hooks me up to the internet. The other goes to my router (which further connects to my XBOX and to a laptop whenever I have one). Recently I've been experiencing an annoying problem. The dialer program that connects me to my ISP via my cable modem failed to connect and consistently reported "Error 769 - The specific destination is not reachable". After some tinkering I realized that this would go away only if I disabled ...
Great. I blogged previously about a cool website that allows your XBox to blog … well I went to check on its first post and its first post was to chimp about how I’m not spending enough time with her … geez, now I have to satisfy my XBox too.
Your XBox can now blog! based on your gaming habits and who knows what else, your XBox submits blog entries to a web address based on your gamertag. I will need to have a talk with my XBox before it is allowed to blog – I don't want everyone to know just how bad I am at Madden 06 …
Well, the contest is finally done and over with. Well, almost. The judging will take place this week, and an XBox 360 will be sent to one lucky fellow who claims victory in the contest. But, it's not all about winning. Sure winning is nice -- no doubting that! -- but one should always live for the experience. I had a really fun time developing Admiral Overalls, and I'm still somewhat in shock and awe at what me and Draffurd have managed to put together in only a month. (Actually, only half! Exams ...
Below is a conversation I had internally with my voice of reason this afternoon between 4:30 and 5:30. Wow...I'm finally getting my Nintendo DS system! I hope EB has the system there, otherwise I'll have to get it at Best Buy. I've got Ghost Recon and Madden 2006 to trade in, so hopefully I'll get good trade value.Just remember: We're getting the system and A game...one...uno.Hmm...turns out that they don't have any systems...I get $42 credit though, so I might as well get my games here...hmm...they ...
Interesting article on Grimwell Online (linked from Slashdot...no clue what-the-hell Grimwell is, but interesting article nonetheless) about whether MMORPG's are taking away from the rest of the gaming market, which is considered in a slump here in 2006. They list a few key facts about the currents state of afairs: The video game industry is in a slump this year. People expect the slump to end in 2006, when the rest of the 'next gen' consoles hit the market. PC sales aren't in a slump – they ...
This is cool, sexy stuff: “Microsoft, together with the upcoming LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT, will help further amplify the impact of robotics,” said Søren Lund, director of LEGO MINDSTORMS at the LEGO Group. “The MINDSTORMS robotics toolset has enjoyed a strong community of users since 1998, and the launch of our next-generation platform includes many built-in features that further the community’s ability to take MINDSTORMS programming out of the box. In combination ...
As you readers out there may or may not know, I'm a fan of all things games. Heck, you could probably sell me a hunk of plastic if you were able to somehow convince me that it was in fact a game (double-whammy if you were able to convince that it was somehow a football game). This piece of news might help explain why such a little piece of sweet Vista toast can make my evening (although, I must admit, it may have been more "balloon" than it was "toast"). I was in the process of installing Visual ...
I got hold of NFS MW 5-1-0 for the PSP, being a big NFS fan I'm truly thrilled by it. If you are a hardcore NFS fan - don't bother about what the reviews say this game is a must have for your collection. I like the PC / XBox look and feel being carried forward on the PSP - the game looks good - the best racing game graphics that I've seen on the PSP. The weather effects are neat almost like the desktop, the neatest effect is the reflection effect on the car glass windows, you just can't miss it, ...
Rocking all over the world: Microsoft brought up the subject about an external HD-DVD device for Xbox 360 at E3 last week. The company didn't reveal any information about the pricing of such peripheral. However, yesterday Gamesindustry.biz reported that retail sources had informed them about Microsoft planning on a HD-DVD add-on for Xbox 360 which combined with the console would be cheaper than upcoming PS3. In the UK, Sony's PlayStation 3 is estimated to hit the price spot around £400, while ...
If you’re interested in finding out if your computer “is ready for an upgrade to Windows Vista”, then download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. Interestingly, it also checks your “goals” for Vista, and determines which Vista edition is right for you. You don’t have to check very much to have the Ultimate edition recommended for you, I noticed. I got the following results for my Dell Latitude D800: Congratulations! Your PC can run the core experiences of Windows ...

An Xbox 360 is quite the carrot.

I managed to sign up and do a save as on the install for the exe.

I hope to get this version running on my aging laptop at home. Will let you know how it runs on an old Toshiba!

I am now XBox 360 bound :D. It was one hellish of an experience getting one (that, and an HDTV). I called around to at least six different GameStops and EBGames in the Portland area. Not a single one had a single 360 in stock (hell, at this point in time, I was willing to buy just a core system and buy the various pieces in the bundle even though I would be spending more money in the long run). At this point, I'm thinking that Microsoft must be _SOOOO_ rich that they don't even want my money in the ...
Y'know how people always make fun of geeks because they go on and on about their computer this and xbox that and process other etc.? Well...I realize now what its like. I went out with some guys from church tonight for some time at the driving range and then to Boston Pizza for some grub. While there, they four of them began talking about saws and planes and such...but...in a very geeky way. They were talking about brand names, and buying tools for the sake of having them and not because they actually ...
So what's new in the life of a Canadian geek... iStockPhotoSo I've been going to Getty Images for sites for our new company website, but the images are a bit expensive. I found a new site, iStockPhoto, in a magazine I was reading. At first it looked really good: super cheap images that are royalty free. But as I looked deeper, it appears that you need to submit your own model release form if you have an image with a “recognizable person“ in it, as well as some restriction that you can't ...
Please please please let the powers that be release a community/express version of XNA Studio... Check out this post on the XNA Framework ... yes... managed code on the XBOX 360.
After reading how FrontRow is a crap I ended up playing with Windows XP Media Center Edition only to learn that is crappy too. Namely, per official Microsoft Extender FAQ the whole MediaCenter - Extender architecture is as good as its extenders and extenders are closed source. So I do get decent experience on a PC, but in the living room Xbox extender is pretty much useless for anything but playing mp3. The reason for that is that Microsoft do not support any codecs but Microsoft's and there is no ...
So XBOX has a lot of synergy with the computer, especially with MCE, stream your MCE content to the XBOX etc. But I must complain that I can't stream from my non MCE box to my XBOX. Situations like this do not make MCE more valueable, it just makes it obvious that you are trying to upsell MCE. Thats great, my next box is going to be MCE anyway (when they support HD over Digital Cable) - but in the meantime, you are just annoying me for no reason. In any case, Xbox and MCE are blurring the lines between ...
As I mentioned before I had an awesome time at the Vancouver Code Camp this past weekend. The day started out a bit hectic since I was a little unsure about the length of my presentation, I was afraid it was going to be too long. It didn't help things when I saw the presentation schedule and found that everyone had only 50 minutes to present. The ten minutes between presentations were to give time for people to switch rooms, go to the washroom etc. and for the next presenter to set up. By the time ...

Here it comes???  All I can say is, it better have a big hard-drive (30GB+).  Stupid PSP.

[Crosspost from Managed World] It seems as though numerous "hints" have been dropped as to the possibility of running Managed Apps on the XBox 360. Some of the latest news is that Tom Miller has actually moved over to the XNA and XBox team. On top of that, there was this latest post from David Weller. One of the quotes: Speaking of XNA....we have some wicked cool stuff to announce and demonstrate at the GDC. We even have a prototype of a CLR-based graphics app running on a 360 dev kit! Drool-tastic ...
yes I know this post is a little over a month old, just file it under better late than never... Brian Keller (Product Manager on the XNA team) has an interesting post about how XNA Build will help developers manage their game asset pipeline and potentially reduce game sizes. This is especially interesting given the constant debate over whether Microsoft should have adopted a more expansive media format for the DVD drives in the XBox 360 ...
My friend Scott Cate just told me about this. From the article:"Rather then keep a whole room full of XBOX 360's, we think a better idea is to give them to childrens charities. We'll start with the Child Crisis Center and the Phoenix Childrens Hospital."If you haven't signed up with textpayme yet please do so if only for this cause.Sign up with this link ...
I can see why Microsoft wont run this – I can hear the anti-gaming, anti-violence, anti-everything groups now. It just isn't the kind of press Microsoft needs another headache over. That being said, it is still the best damn commercial for a gaming system I have seen and absolutely and brilliantly visualizes the XBox 360 “Live” experience. Kudos to Matt Hester and his posse for uncovering this … ...

There are some more .NET security related webcasts coming up, this time brought to you by the good folks at MSDN Canada. It's the Security On the Brain series and it's going on throughout March, so sign up if you're interested in secure coding.

Oh, and you can win an Xbox 360 too...

I think all of us heard it loud and clear. Application Security is a big and growing concern amongst developers. In November we held a Web cast series (dubbed Web Security November). The first web cast in the series had over 550 Canadian attendees. It is by far the biggest web cast we ever did at MSDN Canada. It was so big we had nothing to compare it to. Anecdotally, one of my friends attended a Web cast by Donald Trump on Apprentice a few months back. Good ol’ Donald had something over 600 ...

Imagine that you are the only one who can save a person, a city, or even a nation. And imagine that you must provide the right combination of strategy and programming skill to save the day. This competition uses a background story, comic-style graphics and coding challenges to test the skills of student programmers from across the ...
So I help in forming the minds of the youth that come to our church, and that sometimes involves partaking in youth events. This past Friday was our second all-nighter event, and it went really really well. It's amazing how you can push yourself to do things you'd normally not think were possible, but I think part of that involves what the activity actually is too. The night started at 8:00 with a few rounds of games-in-the-dark, then it moved to free time and the Risk game began (I started with ...

I have an updated Gamertag for the XBox 360. I don't get to play much, trying to split hobby time with the drumset. Add me if you have an XBox!
