I'm currently standing in line behind exactly ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THREE PEOPLE outside EB Games at Crossgates mall in Albany. There are at least 50 more behind me. My Treo 600 and Rio Carbon have kept me entertained. I only wish the camera on the Treo was even half of half decent. An interesting phenomenon has begun here. You seem the Best Buy next door is also opening at midnight. And they don't require that you be one of their 200ish pre-orders. What's more, they just put up a sign indicating ...
Found this today. Might be worth a try if I can get my hands on a couple of XBOX games ...
INETA has launched what is being referred to as the Great Attendance Count which I have been coordinating. We are collecting the number of people that attend user group meetings during October 2004 for INETA user groups as well as their total number of members. If you are a user group leader for an INETA user group you should have received an email with details yesterday. If not, visit http://www.ineta.org/survey... and enter your information. BTW, all user groups that ...
This guy seems to be having problems with HD service on Time Warner digital cable. But from reading his post, and having my own experiences with Time Warner and HD, I think his problems fall under the category of “user error.” When I wanted an HD box from Time Warner, I took my digital cable box to their local walk-in service/store location and asked for the HD box. They said, “do you have an HDTV?” Of course I said “yes.” They then took my old box and gave me ...
So you want to rally, eh? For this review, I will look at the three rally games that I have on the XBOX. The first is the original RalliSport Challenge. When I first got this game, I thought it was the best game on the XBOX (yes, it was that good). RalliSport2 Challenge is EVEN BETTER. The graphics are superb, the handling is outstanding and the tracks are incredible. The best part is that in RalliSport2 is that you (as the driver) get to work through a true rally (you work through multiple stages), ...
I will buy this only because I have to. It seems Atari will release all of their classic games on a single XBOX disc. From CNN: “ .. "Atari Anthology" will feature 85 games and is scheduled to go on sale in November at a cost of about $20.” I grew up on this stuff ... lame as their are in today's eyes, but at the time, my younger brother and I thought we were the coolest kids on the block when my father came home with our Atari. Therefore, I must purchase this for the memories. Games ...
Wow it has been quite a while since my last blog. I have been very busy lately trying to wrap up projects before my intership comes to a close (2 more weeks). Over the past week I attended a couple really great tech talks at Microsoft. The first one was about the Windows Media Center OS. Unfortunately, I can’t outline what they talked about, but my advice is wait for the next release as the experience will be really hot! The second talk I attended was on the future of Xbox and wait innovations ...
HAPPY Friday the 13th! Well .... I know we are in our eighth month here of the year, but I decided to post my half-year favs of 2004 (please take the topics and post your own as well ... if you wish). Drum-roll please ..... Fav Movie WatchedThe House of Sand and Fog - This movie totally shocked me with that ending. For some reason, I found this movie very intense and the acting is SUPERB! Fav CDI know it is old, but I spent the first six months listening to Sugar: Copper Blue. Oh, what a great album ...
I promised that I would tell how it went at the Neste Rally in Jyvaskyla, Finland this year. I really got into rally after playing way too much RallySport on the XBOX and so did my 3 year old boy Henri. We decided that we wanted to also see the real-deal and this was our second time down to one of the biggest events Finland has to offer (along with the wife-carrying contest, the sitting-in-the-sauna contest and the boot-throwing contest). First off, Henri really enjoyed himself as he is a big car-enthusiast. ...
Heading off to vacation in Finland again for one week (leaving tomorrow), so I won't be online that often - sorry. I am going off to see the Rally championship in Jyvaskyla, Finland. I really got into this sport because I played way-too much RallySport on the XBOX and I find it “way-cool“ to see it live and check out the cars. My 3 year old loves it as well! I'll post some photos from the championship later! Vrrrmmmm Vrrrmmmmmm ...
I was just on Amazon buying the first ever Barbie XBOX game (I have a 6 year old daughter!) and when I was done purchasing it - Amazon gave me a list of recommendations from all the stuff I look at. I thought my recommendations where funny: Your Recommendations: SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottomby THQPrice: $36.95 Used & new from $34.97 Finding Nemoby THQPrice: $19.99 Used & new from $13.00 Programming C#, Third Editionby Jesse LibertyPrice: $30.57 Used & new from $22.95 ...
Having read this, I came up with the following. The biggest reason why P2P networks have become so popular is NOT that they're free. It's because they're simple and effective.I believe that the best option for an online music reseller (and the RIAA), would be to do the following:Set up a music download service like the *original* Napster. Give it a bunch of very high-bandwidth hosts. Give it a slick, non-bloat interface. And make it work just like a P2P program. Let different software vendors develop ...
After watching Joe Stegman's DEV260 overview of Windows Forms “2.0” I was fascinated by the new MenuStrip and ToolStrip controls. I love the fact that MS is giving us access to controls that will have a very similar look and feel, by default, to the current MS applications. What's even better is these new strips can use a custom renderer to create your own look and feel. That means when Office v.next comes out we'll immeidately be able to update our own look and feel to match the new ...
After reading this article on IGN about Microsoft's research into the potential market for an Xbox/Xbox2/PC “hybrid” system, I had a few thoughts... First of all, this makes it seem far more likely that the Xbox 2 “spec sheets” released a couple months back were just plain wrong. I'm referring of course to the documents that claimed the current Xbox 2 design calls for 3 Dual-Core Power5 processors. It seems unlikely that Microsoft would built a system on the PPC platform AND ...
Today I spent forever trying to get my automated stress testing setup at work. I tried everything from cable swapping to reinstallations and nothing worked. Finally I was forced to call it quits and send an email to the team that supports the testing. This also caused me to stay until about 7:30 when I was planning to be out by about 6. Oh well, thats life. Enough with the bad news, onto the good. This morning I was greeted with a wonderful email that informed me I had won a XBOX. Yes thats right, ...
Here’s the comment I posted to Scoble’s blog about the RSS vs. Atom debate that’s been sparked by the W3C’s invitation to the Atom developers to work toward standardization. To me, this is not a VHS vs. Beta argument but rather very much like a DVD+RW vs. DVD-RW argument. In both cases, both formats can be interpreted by about 99% of "reader" devices. Nowadays most DVD recorders can burn to both formats as well. The only difference is in the label that's on the media. A few ...
Ok, I just went and through the whole iPod thing out the door. Why? Well, it doesn't play WMA's for one. I thought you might be able to buy an FM tuner for it. They have an FM receiver that allows you to transmit to an FM station so you can listen to your MP3's in the car, but that's not what I'm looking for. Finally, I already have an digital music player (Nomad Jukebox 2). So, I have come to a final decision. I bought the XBox the day it came out. Unfortunately, I received one of the “bad” ...
I've read recently how the Xbox 2 is probably not going to have a hard drive. The reaction has been pretty negative. I think people need to think a little more creatively. I suspect that Microsoft is going to use some kind of solid state RAM to replace the hard drive. The storage space on these cards is quickly approaching the current Xbox's 8 gig HD size and the price keeps coming down. I'll bet that 16 or 32 gigs of flash storage will be cheaper than the current 8gig HD. Why would Microsoft go ...
It looks like good times lie ahead for game developers of both the Windows and XBox platform. Today Microsoft showed their intentions for game developers when they announced the planning of XNA, the foundation of Microsoft's future game development platform. Understand that this will not be replacing DirectX, it will be built on top of DirectX. I, for one, cannot wait to hear more about this platform. If anyone works for Microsoft or knows anyone who works for Microsoft, how 'bout giving Jasey-Wasey ...
Philip Rieck of Omaha graciously presented at the Kansas City .NET Users Group last night (with only 6 days notice). His topic was over SOA, but from an architecture standpoint, not code. The presentation went over wonderfully. The audience was top notch for the area and we had some great discussions during and after the presentation about SOA and the techniques presented. If you can get Philip to come to your group, I highly suggest you go for it. Also, if you are an XBox Live player, his gamertag ...
At first I thought XBox live was alright, but all I had was MechAssult that I could play online. Well today I went out and purchased Rainbow Six 3 and a RF/VGA convertor to hook the XBox to my computer monitor. Very very cool mod and I suggest you try it. There is nothing like coming home, checking your email, playing a first person shooter, dying, and IM in ghost mode. Below is a shot of my new setup. ...
Well I caved in and got XBox Live with Ninja Gaiden.  My tag is “jjulian2” and the only game I have is MechAssult.  Let me know yours and what other games are fun.
From a comment on an earlier XBOX entry in my blog, linked was the new white and blue versions of the XBOX that you can get in Japan. I really like the blue one! ...
I recently got this game, Links 2004, and was quite excited to give it a round. Overall, it is fun game (though friends tell me to check out Outlaw Golf). The graphics are superb and it is fun to change the weather to something rather annoying for the player - or if you are the one sitting around on a rainy cold day, then giving yourself some sunshine. The people in the game move and hit the ball quite realistically. You can also play all sorts of famous courses around the world which is exciting ...
Between this, this, this and this, I have been working my butt off lately. Haven't you? It's a busy time in our industry. Just when the .NET wave is really starting to kick-in with the [growing] list of company's deploying enterprise applications, there is a new wave coming that many on the edge are feeling the pressure to learn and prepare to be next year's experts. I love this stuff, but we all deserve a break. My brain needs a breather. Got XBox Live? I'll be on this weekend. My gamer tag is “drewby”. ...
Seems there are some more words coming out about XBOX 2.0. Details include: XBOX 2 might not include a hard drive, but instead depend on flash memory. They are not sure that XBOX 1 games will work on XBOX 2 IBM will be the chip supplier (already knew that) Scary ... I have been making a huge investment in XBOX 1 games and controls and wouldn't want to really upgrade. I doubt game vendors will have XBOX 1 and XBOX 2 versions of their new games that come out after the release of XBOX 2. Yikes, I think, ...
I have really been getting into XBOX games as of late. It is a great way to relax and my 3 year old boy loves to play as well, so we have fun! I love the sports games the best - and football is the best of the sports games for me. I got NFL Fever 2002 and 2003. I really didn't notice much of a difference between those two except 2002 has a better film introduction which is cool to watch. The packaging said that the replays of NFL Fever 2003 were better than that of 2002, but again, I really didn't ...
It seems that Microsoft is going to supply XBOX game consoles for a number of USO centers. This article is interesting. The strange comment to me was from Ned Powell who says that they are trying to find “any diversion” from where they are going and what they are doing. So I am thinking about some young solider going off to fight battle in Iraq or wherever ... he comes into the USO ... sits down ... Oh an XBOX! How nice. I need a little diversion from where I am going .... Hmmm, let's see ... what ...
We have a bus, 54 seats, and an XBox to giveaway. What else could you ask for? If you are in Kansas City and want to go to the “ASP.NET Roadshow” in St. Louis, please contact me and I will get you of the list. This is going to be fun! The date is 12/4/2003 and we will be leaving around 1:30. Update: Microsoft has actually set up an event for us. http://msevents.microsoft.c... ...
Doug Seven will be speaking at the .NET Developer's Association in Redmond. I am sure it will be a great talk from Doug - as we only expect the best from him - ASP.NET Security: Preventing Malicious Input. I know they will have some books to give away and it looks like an XBox too! More details ...
Looks like Microsoft is going to lower the cost of the XBOX in Japan down to around $45(USD). Wow! That is a heck of a price cut. They are doing it because the XBOX doesn't seem to be taking hold in the country of video games and if you are going to make it big in the video game industry - you have to be big in Japan!
Quite the successful UG meeting tonight for St. Louis. We had over 150 people show up for our Office 2003 presentation, which makes that our biggest meeting in our 2 year history. Despite a few glitches (like running out of plates for the food, lack of AC in the auditorium and the presenter showing up 15 minutes late) most people stayed to the end. Of course it help that we were giving away an XBox ;) Thanks to all of the PDC bloggers. Although I am jealous of you cause I am not there, the coverage ...
