For those of you that care about this sort of thing... "Team I.C.E." (and no I'm not going to post a link) is apparently putting the finishing touches on the first XBOX 360 mod chip. Looks like it will be available at the end of this month through various "retailers" for around $70. ("Retailers" was their choice of word, not mine.) The bragsheet says you can direct boot Xbox 360 ISOs, Rips and Dumps. (It also mentions 20-30 wires depending on xbox revision, which I assume are soldered... and that ...

I found out yesterday when I was in bed sick with the flu (not Xbox 360 Flu, but the real one) that I have been awarded MVP again in 2006. My area is XML and I am glad I am still part of that team.

Yeahhhhh Babyyyyy.... Best Buy, Topeka, KS.
Now I have to reactivate XBox Live!
For those of you that care (and didn't already know)... You can hook your XBOX 360 controllers to your PC (they are USB after all) and they work great with MAME. I don't own a 360 yet, but I got a controller for free at Microsoft Meltdown and Windows XP detected it immediately with no driver download required. I liked it so much, I bought a second one the other day as an early birthday present. I have them both hooked up to my main machine at the moment. Whenever I finally get a 360, I'll be ready... ...
So the standup arcade machine I was drooling over in a previous post is apparently complete crap... (and available exclusively at Target, I might add. Go figure.) What's wrong with it? The games are all running in emulation, badly. No original ROMs. It's like a crappy MAME knockoff without the ability to add new stuff. The monitor is TINY. As in, TEENY TINY. As in.... 13 INCHES (as in, damn that's tiny!) The monitor is NOT, in fact, a monitor at all... but a cheap (VERY CHEAP) color tv bolted into ...
Well there's good and bad. The good: Games are great in particularly: PG3, Need for Speed, Call of Duty, Tiger Woods, Fifa 2006 The graphics are great, the movie trailers are ace in HD Sound brill Xbox Live is cool Plugging in IPOD simple! The bad: Failed to link PC with XBOX using Connect software - PC sees XBOX but not other way around! XBOX live spoilt by slow users, foul mouthed abusers and a lack of good content. Where's the awesome King Kong HD trailer. Why can't I use an external USB Harddrive ...

In the season of XBox 360s and iPod Videos, I wanted a set of drums. Not just any ole set of drums, electric drums so I could learn to play in the silence of my basement without disturbing Michelle or Brandon. Well Santa showed up with a set of Yamaha DTXplorer this year. Awesome, time to let the hair grow, jk. Who knows, maybe I will start musicians with blogs :D.

With Backward Compatibility, you can put in your original X-Box game and playit on your X-Box 360. Not only that, every game will be playable in highdefinition. This means that every original X-Box game will be upscaled to 720pand 1080i and taking advantage of X-Box 360’s anti-aliasing capabilities. With other words, we will se a picture that is clearer and crisper than whatthe original X-Box could handle. This sounds like heaven, but there are somesmall things that you must think of...1. You ...
I have read two things about the Google / AOL partnership that bothers me. 1 - AOL will serve up graphical ads to the current "text only" advertising that Google uses. I'm guessing this means both the ads on Google and the Ad-Sense program. Great! Just what we need. Punching monkeys, throwing footballs to win an XBox 360 on Google! 2 - AOL will get preferred placement of video ads on Google video and they will not be marked as ads. Even Microsoft wouldn't agree to this one. I think Google needs to ...
Welcome Instapundit Readers! I have been calling B&H every hour about getting a D200, on the hour since the 15th. Every day I got "they aren't in yet". On Sunday, I got told "they are in the building, but not in our system yet". I started calling every 20 minutes. Normally, they answered immediately, and told me not yet. Suddenly at around 4:00 CST, I was on hold for 15 minutes. I knew immediately they were in. I finally got through, worries the whole time my phone would cut out. But I ordered ...
Recently my wife got a new Creative Zen Vision. No matter what she tried, it would not sync video. The computer we were using has had a lot of video software and codecs installed over time, plus we were already using it to sync a Creative Portable Media Center and a SmartPhone. She called Creative and they were no help. They actually told her to try someone else's software besides Creative. It was time for a rebuild. The current configuration was running Windows XP Pro with Beyond TV to record. I ...
If you tuned into the NBC show called Three wishes that was aired on Friday night you would have the answer to my question. The show is about how people send in their wish and the night of this show there was a young man who wanted to be an astronaut so his wish was granted and he went to Huntsville, Alabama for some training. A young woman was granted her wish to be an actress so off to Hollywood she went for acting lessons and a chance to try out for a small acting role which we got. Finally, there ...
I recently received a very polite letter from the shop I order my Xbox 360 saying they had cancelled my order. The reason being is that they had only a hand-full of machines and they believed that the supply problems would continue for sometime, so rather than get embroiled in a protracted customer relations exercise they have decided to 'cut-bait'. So it's every person for themselves. So I'm without Xbox 360 and not likely to see one this side of Christmas perhaps even later because you can bet ...
This blog will be about life with an Xbox 360!
Given the rather disturbing trend of Xbox 360's overheating, I found it rather ironic when I came across this article on bloombergs site: read the article for yourself at: http://quote.bloomberg.com/... you gotta be careful what you say about your products ...
[Crosspost from Managed World] Well, it finally happened. After much noise and dismay for several months, the DVD drive in my XBox finally gave way. Luckily I had an extra XBox downstairs so I was able to transplant the working DVD drive into my main XBox. I guess this means that my extra XBox though is simply a box for transplant parts from now on. Oh well, at least my XBox is up and running again. Of course, by transplanting the DVD drive I did totally bust up the warranty (if it was even under ...
Back in high school, while many were playing Dungeons and Dragons, I was playing a series of games put out by Palladium Books . I spent much time with friends plaing TMNT and Robotech. But the most beloved RPG from Palladium was RIfts. Rifts melded technology and modern weapons with magic and the arcane, all dumped into a future post-apocalyptic setting. There was a big war, all the nukes exploding caused lines of magic called ley-lines to surface which opened doors to other dimensions, which were ...
Sony XCP rootkit removed by Windows AntiSpyware - If nothing else, it's interesting to see one big company label another's software "malicious," though I'm sure most would agree that it's a foregone conclusion and little love will be lost between Microsoft and Sony. Songbird - Songbird is a complete desktop media player or "jukebox" with a uniquely open approach to Internet digital media network services. Songbird is developed by Pioneers of the Inevitable, a small, chirpy team of digital media innovators ...
"The vast majority of Xbox 360 owners are having an outstanding experience with their new consoles," she said. "As you might expect, we're hearing some reports of consoles not working as expected. But the important thing to note here is that the call rate is well below what you'd expect for a consumer electronic product of this complexity." O'Donnell says that Microsoft of course expected a limited number of calls regarding problems, and they have the units to replace any faulty 360s. "It's unfortunate ...
Those who read my last post know the frustration I've felt lately struggling to just register my XBox Live gamertag with my Passport account. It should be simple: you just re-enter the details from your original account info into the little text boxes and voila. But not so simple it turns out. I couldn't figure it out, the helpful tech support people this morning didn't fix it. But this afternoon another XBox support staffer showed me the light. And the culprit is, once again, the curse that my parents ...
Every year I post all the things that I hope the suckers family and friends in my life will buy for me. I hope to completely eliminate crap gifts one day. So here goes: Most of my items can be found on my Amazon.com and ThinkGeek wish lists. Amazon has mostly DVDs and Xbox 360 games and ThinkGeek has mostly, well, geek stuff. But there are three items that did not fit on either list: A wireless surround sound system and receiver for the living room. All digital, no 900MHz stuff. That works fine for ...
edit: make that idiot rapper... Rapper 50 Cent speaks out on why his (rated M) XBox game, Bulletproof, is a valuable teaching tool for children. Umm, yeah... riiiiight. My new absolute most favorite quote ever: "you can grab an enemy and steal all of his valuables, leaving both his ego shattered and his pockets empty. Then, you can beat him over the head with your sawed off shotgun until he tells you everything he knows, freeing him of any remaining dignity. Lastly, you can choose to boot him away, ...
This is what Sony and Microsoft think we want: * Super Horsepower * Super Graphics * Fancy design * Ability to play a lot of media types, basically turning this "gaming" console into an all-in-one entertainment machine* pricing near that of a good computer (well we don't want this) This is what Nintendo thinks we want: * Innovating gameplay * simple, but good design * Very good graphics * New gaming concepts, such as their new controller * a "fair" price $400-$500 for a gaming console in insane. ...
It's not really that difficult...all I want to do is associate my XBox Live gamertag with my 360. But for some reason it doesn't want to take. So I try to associate my passport and gamertag on the xbox website. Same thing: I get errors. So this morning I called XBox support. I talked to a very nice girl (can't remember her name) who was very helpful, and bugged not one but two supervisors on my behalf. The first supervisor sounded like a tool, but the second one, Chris, was helpful...although we ...
Poor little geeks...they stayed up all night long, stood in line and froze their little bits off hoping that they might actually get the latest and greatest gaming console called the XBox 360 when Best Buy opened at Midnight. There is nothing worse than the look of gut-wrenching agony on the face of a geek when he/she realizes that the 60 or so units they hoped to get one of were gone by 12:00:30 AM.. So, on their way home the mass of geeks found themselves sitting empty handed in their local Kripy ...
I finally plugged in my Xbox 360 tonight and got it up and running. I must say that I'm impressed with the hardware. It's a much nicer design than the old XBox (side by side, you can totally tell that Microsoft has improved over the original, bulky design). The controllers, which I thought I'd deteste, I actually really like! Wireless is a beautiful thing, and the controls are very responsive and comfortable. But what about the games? I have two: Project Gotham Racing 3 and Call of Duty 2.Project ...
Mostly more Xbox stuff. Microsoft Announces Next-Generation ERP Suite - Microsoft Corp. announced Tuesday the first iteration of its next-generation ERP suite, Dynamics GP 9.0, that brings roles-based user interfaces—and a growing integration across Microsoft's infrastructure—to Windows, SharePoint Services portal and Visual Studio. So I managed to get my “kids“ an Xbox 360 yesterday (I hope they don't read this), solely due to the help of my brother-in-law and his wife who waited in line for me from 10AM to 4PM when I could get there. THANK YOU DENNIS AND PENNY! I must say that I am not a fan of Wal-mart but they did an excellent job. The line was mostly orderly, especially toward the front. They opened AC adapters for people whose DVD players went dead, offered to save your spot while you went for dinner, quickly ...
This morning I joined the legions of geeks who took part in adding to the trust funds for Ballmer and Gates' children. I picked up my XBox 360 this morning from Best Buy. It went...well, it wasn't the most organized thing I've ever seen, but I think most of it had to do with the three camera crews from local TV stations that were setting up for the “perfect shot”. Most people who didn't have pre-orders or who didn't line up last night/early this morning were left with two options: core ...
Well, tomorrow is Black Tuesday, or perhaps Green Light Tuesday, depending on how you look at it. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people will plunk down their (or their parent's) hard-earned green in hope for some MS green in the form of lights on their new Xbox 360. Wal-mart, being one of the vendors preparing for the onslaught, has taken steps to ensure that the few machines they receive are distributed fairly, or so they say. The employees here in Charlotte weren't allowed to pre-purchase, and ...
Tonight marks the official launch of the Xbox 360 video game system from Microsoft. If you were planning to come stand in line at the Bellevue, Wa Best Buy store, I hope you're already here. The current count seems to be over 250+ people waiting in line, a few of which have been here since Saturday or earlier. I was planning to arrive late this afternoon, but when a friend tipped me off to an 80+ person line at 8AM this morning, I decided to change my plans. I have to say that the Best Buy management ...

I remember when I was younger, there was a huge backlash on Dungeons and Dragons, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica...all because parents blamed these influences on behaviour exhibited by some youth; suicide, violent behavior, mischief, whatever. There was always some media that could be blamed. Apparantly the latest target is Blizzard's World of Warcraft. This article suggests that a 13 year old boy jumped to his death because he was re-inacting a scene from the game. The parents are now going to sue Blizzard ...
I've been using Live.com as my homepage since it was released. But truthfully, I don't see my homepage that much since I pretty much always have Maxthon running and I have it set to resume a session if I close an re-open it. But today I was pointed to an insanely cool Gadget for Live.com over at http://microsoftgadgets.com/ and I was just astounded at what kinds of awesome plugins people are making for the site! And what's even better? I installed the “Xbox Live Gamercard” gadget (and ...
Well, I have been trying to register for one of Microsoft's free e-Learning courses for SQL Server 2005 for the last 24 hours. But each time I try to access I get told I need to register and each time I try to register I get the following: There was an error while registering you as a Learner. Please try after some time. I have registered before for other similar courses without any problems, so “after some time” I come back, but still no luck. Darn it! I had set aside some time this ...

Hilarious post about the whiners on Slashdot reacting to how backwards compatibility is going to work on the XBox 360.

Language warning (Rated PG-13 post I'd say).

Great article, reposted without permission, from here: http://vision.pcvsconsole.c... is it folks. The beginning of the end.The winds of changeThe winds of change are in the air. Can you feel it? I know I can, and so do millions of other gamers. It’s the looming arrival of the next generation of consoles, and the winds are powered by the approaching hurricane known as the Xbox 360, fresh off the heels of the mighty little tornado known as the Nintendo DS.Tornadoes and hurricanes ...

Rory Blythe, who I met at the Portland Code Camp this summer, writes about backwards compatibility on the Xbox 360. Hysterical!

http://neopoleon.com/blog/posts/16512.aspx

there are “a few” dirty words, but it's worth it.

A colleague of mine pointed me out to the Need for Speed Most Wanted demo that’s available for download, quite a hefty download of 544 MB is well worth it! I spent the whole of Saturday and today morning playing the demo. IT’S FABULOUS! The demo lets you play - 3 Challenge Series- 3 Quick Races- 4 Cars (to choose + you get to play other cars (pre-selected) in the Challenge Series- Play Online with other gamers!! The first thing you'd probably notice is the Sound and Music - its too much ...
Now this is how you wow gamers: Xbox.com: Will there be any benefits to playing original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 console? Todd: Absolutely. One of the great things about gaming on Xbox 360 is the satisfaction of knowing that every game will be playable in high definition. We are now proud to reveal that this extends to the original Xbox games as well. Every original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360's anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture ...
[Crosspost from Managed World] Well, I get to enjoy a week in a cabin out in the middle of the woods with my wife. This is going to be very relaxing. No internet, no work, no phone, no nothing. Of course, being the techie that I am (and since it is partly *my* vacation also), I can't help but bring some of my guilty pleasures as well (no, I'm not talking about my wife (COME ON! It's a joke! I keed, I keed (I'm sorry honey =P))). So, what pleasures of mine am I taking that would cause all my coworkers ...
This is what happens when your company is one of the richest on the planet ... you get to have really cool launch parties for your products. It seems that the XBOX team is throwing a large 3000 person party at a TOP SECRET location located somewhere in the Mojave desert. More details here ... ZERO HOUR! It seems that everyone is going to get together in the middle of the desert, eat, drink, sing songs about XBOX, share stories, play games, talk about Halo tactics, etc. for 24 hours counting down ...

I knew they had some tricks up their sleeves!!!

My lust for the Xbox 360 has reached new heights.

I’ve had a busy week on the road, well until the gear-box on my car broke! Anyway, it gives me a chance to catch my breath and post about a few things that have caught my eye recently. Microsoft has gone all abit Live! Press announcement here. In brief, what was announced is that some new and existing product and services will align themselves under the Windows Live, Office Live or Xbox Live banner. For example MSN Messenger will become Windows Live Messenger with the next version. MSN will ...
Windows Live was announced today by Microsoft along with Office Live and the new XBox Live. You can read more about it at Microsoft's Press Pass website. Windows Live™ is a set of personal Internet services and software designed to bring together in one place all of the relationships, information and interests people care about most, with more safety and security features across their PC, devices and the Web. Microsoft demonstrated early versions of several new Windows Live offerings, some ...
Valve have released the 'The Lost Coast', a HDR Lighting Demo level for HalfLife 2. Along the progress of the game you do have 'narratives' which exposes you to various aspects of building the game, character modeling and the technology itself. The best part is that this a free demo, however if you the requirements for HDR is very high. What is required is a processor speed greater than 2.8Ghz, more than 1GB Ram, and a Direct X 9 Card, which means I don't get to see all those cool bloom effects. ...
Despite very good compression results the main problem of AVC is processor requirements. For me it would translate into very simple problem - SD (480p) AVC will not play on XBOX (733 MHz CPU), at least for now, untill x264 is optimized. On the other hand, encoding into AVC is quite expensive too. The following table summarize 2 pass encoding done on different CPUs (Single pass generally could be done twice as fast). CPU Video Enc FPS MoM % Real P3 866MHz 20 fps 2.137/2.034 19 min 5% M 1.6GHz 20 fps ...

We are organizing a special event for our developers, and after the event you will even get a chance to play on the new Xbox 360s before they even hit the stores!! Below is the event abstract. We will have some great speakers from the gaming industry and Microsoft (you'll have to show up to see who the are!). Game development, food, coffee, xbox 360....what are you waiting for!!!! In the same vein as ILoveBees, OurColony, and Origen 360, a new campaign seems to have emerged. It's centered around this site: www.hex168.com For those of you that went to whip out your calculators, yes a hex 168 would be decimal 360. Team Xbox has some interesting pictures apparently related to the story. They also suggest that an informant told them the meaning behind the campaign will be revealed on October 18th (this Tuesday). Some speculate that it might be the first chance to preview an actual ...

Yep, the dudes at Joystiq have got their hands on an XBOX 360 and have done a review of it.
