Someone at Microsoft is getting sick of the I'm a Mac commercials. Video: Apple Mac vs. PC - Zune vs. Ipod ...
With the help of this post, I am now listening, downloading, and syncing my Zune and the Zune Marketplace on Vista. Amazing to see these two products working together. I have the following apps running at the same time with no performance issues I used to have on XP: Word 2007 open (writing my portion of a book) Couple IE windows Virtual PC 2007 with 1024MB allocated to a running machine (Windows 2003 and SharePoint 2007) Outlook 2007 Zune player listening to Blue October (amazing CD!) Windows Live ...
Even if you aren't a Zune fanatic, Microsoft has released a new desktop theme based on the Zune interface. The new interface is very similar to the one offered by Windows Media Player 11. The theme is very clean and easy on the eyes. It installs as a desktop theme in the Display Properties control panel, so there is no extra software required in order to use it ...
Atomsk and Robert McLaws have been musing about the Zune becoming a wireless Vista SideShow appliance, and having a port on laptops where you can dock to charge it. Since SideShow requires very little power to get the job done, what about going the distance and making a SideShow-enabled watch? For awhile we were hearing about the PocketPC architecture miniaturizing into watch form, but I don't think we even need to have that much OS to have something very useful. Just having your calendar, weather ...
From on10.net comes a link to some great XBox 360 themed wallpapers for your Zune. Now, if only I could sync my damn Zune with Windows Vista. Rumor has it that internally all the Microsofties have the patch that makes the Zune software Vista compliant, but the rest of us have to wait until, oh yeah, consumer availability of Windows Vista in anothe4 45 days. Come on, wrap it in the "beta" verbiage like everything else and let us download it already!! Zune wallpapers courtesy of 360style.net; a sweet ...
So I'm in Chicago, attending the Microsoft .Net PAC, it's -8C, it's nearly Christmas and I take warmth shelter in Virgin..... and then I find the Zune section! 5 minutes later minus $270 I'm the proud owner of a Zune (Well 2 actually I got one for the Arch BizTalk Hacker as well!!!). Rush back to the hotel, discarding packaging as I go and then.....Vista! I have an Acer 4000 64 bit running 64 bit Vista and....64 bit XP. Try to install Zune software....Vista not supported.....reboot....XP 64.....try ...
Dear Freinds, Joe Healy will be in town and he wants to have a get together he calls this gathering A Geek Laager A laager basically means a circle of wagons pulled together for defensive reasons. The phrase originated in high german, and is now obsolete Afrikaans. Dictionary.com has a great definition here :: http://www.devfish.net/Full... . A geek laager is a circling up of developers (aka geeks) for a short period of time. When I'm in a town for a user group or developer ...
Okay, I realize the Zune is not for everyone. In fact, 9 out of 10 times, I would recommend an iPod first even though I own both an iPod and Zune and prefer the Zune. I was sold on the larger screen and subscription music and was willing to give up a bunch of other features to get it, at least temporary. The clock is ticking and I hope Microsoft keeps improving it. Otherwise, a year from now, I'll start looking again. But I honestly think this is just the beginning. But I am sick of false information ...

Get Zune skins at DecalGirl.  (They also have skins for iPods, most game consoles, laptops, DS, etc.)

I know I have been a little Zune crazy lately, so I will tame it down after this post. ZUNE ACCESSORIES ARE AT WALMART.... Last night when we went to Walmart to purchase some Christmas paraphernalia for our house, I walked through the electronics department as I always do now looking for Zune accessories and there it was. The Zune car charger and FM transmitter! This device is average when it comes to FM transmitters and the charger cords is quite short and tightly wound in the coil so it is hard ...
Well it looks like Jeff is busy writing a book, so I'll have to take this on myself. Last weekend I went to EB Games to check out the Zune in person. The manager talked me into one I talked myself into one knowing that if I hated it, I could return it. My biggest concern was Podcasts, which the Zune software has no direct support for out of the box. Here is the solution. First you need some sort of podcast receiving software. I started to try Doppler since it had limited support with Windows Media ...
I've been looking more into the Zune lately, and I'm very excited for them to come to Canada...but then I was talking with a buddy who recently got one and he informed me that the much talked about rumors of Microsoft giving you every song you've purchased through iTunes for free is just that: rumor. So that got me thinking...how is Microsoft going to try and justify to all those people who have bought hundreds of songs through ITunes to just up and switch to the Zune marketplace? There's no way ...
Well not from Microsoft, but a Zune branded accessory. An FM transmitter by Monster Cable. I found this at a local Target store (after walking around the campers) along with an actual Microsoft Home Kit (I don't want that $100 dock, remote, and cables). Read more about this device. Technorati tags: Zune Review, Zune, Zune Accessories, Monster Cable, Target ...
Well I am still downloading (or attempting to, not looking so good) Vista from MSDN, but I am not sure how I am going to use it. You see (and have probably already heard) that the Vista team is on one side of the campus and Zune team is on another. The distance is so far that they were unable to communicate and test products together. So the Zune doesn't work on Vista. Now since Business Customers don't use Zunes, they will release an update just in time for the Vista Home release in January. So ...
Okay, Jeff here is the deal. You write a post on how to setup your Zune to sync podcasts and I promise to run out and buy a Zune. Then I'll send an e-mail to anyone at Microsoft you want telling them that you personally made this happen, change the tag line of my blog to "Jeff Julian is the Zune God" until the end of the year, and plaster a Geeks With Blogs sticker on the window of my car. Here are the rules: The podcast software can be third party, but no more than $50 to purchase. The podcast software ...
I know, I ranted on the Zune already, but how the heck did the Zune team overlook building in some kick-butt pod\blogcast management and subscription tools in to the Zune player and software? It seems glaringly apparent to me that the only qualification for being on the team for this device was a love of obscure indie music and the color brown. Pod\blogcasts are no longer cutting edge, but a must-have, especially for an IT Pro looking for a device that can help him consume job-relevant content in ...
These pictures are from last night (Wednesday, November 15, 2006) in Lee's Summit, MO around 9pm in the Best Buy parking lot. Amazing!!!! They have already started. Last time I waited in line was XBox 1.0 and prior to that was Dreamcast, N64, Playstation 2. During this time, you just had to show up at 10pm and get it as midnight. Now if you want one of these devices, you have to camp out in the 30 degree weather for a few nights. For all you crazy folks out there waiting in line, pick me up some ...
So a lot of us ran out to Circuit City, Target, CompUSA, etc. to get our hands on Microsoft’s latest portable media offering – the super-hyped Zune. Zune has been in production, publicly, for at least the past 8 months. Even longer behind the scenes I am sure. At the same time Microsoft has also been feverishly developing and testing in preparation for release the latest incarnation of its desktop operating system – Windows Vista. Common sense would tell you that somewhere in that time span someone ...
Unless you are just looking for a case to protect your Zune, all other accessories were not shipped. I would hope Microsoft would know that portable devices are nothing without car/home attachments. You need to ship chargers and transmitters with the devices to the stores. This was a lesson Apple needs to learn as well. Every iPod I have purchased (1G, 4G, Nano) have not had adequate accessories at launch. At least Microsoft announced what the accessories were, but with the delivery date set on most ...
Man I need some accessories. Last night I downloaded so much music that I have been meaning to listen to (well over $249.99 in CDs), but I don't have anything for playback in my car. Here is my review of features: Radio - Robert's friends say it isn't good, but I am in the middle of a large brick building (center office, middle floor) and it comes in perfectly. It is nice to just flip from CDs to FM, too bad I mostly listen to AM and there are no talk radio stations on FM in KC. Buttons - Yeah this ...
Once I popped the top off my Zune box today, this is the phrase I saw, Welcome to the social. I love this device. I have iPods (4 to be exact), so all my music that I have previously purchased can stay on them. My Zune is for the Zune Marketplace and a Zune pass. I wanted this device solely for pulling music from the service (unlimited downloads) and sync only those to the Zune. First thoughts about the device is this is what an iPod should have been. Big screen, more advanced UI, etc. It is hard ...
I have been itching to blog about the new stuff coming and then I experienced some technical difficulties, but now it is time. The demo of the awesome tool Photosynth is now available to play with by downloading it from here. I have been following this one and let me tell you - it rocks. For a photographer (pro or hobby), Photosynth is something that will make showing off your photos and finding out what you missed when you were shooting a scene pretty interesting. The demo looks hot on my new HP ...
Microsoft is going to give Universal $1 for every Zune they sell. Why? "We feel that there's a great deal of music that's [stored] on these devices that was never legitimately obtained," said Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Doug Morris. "We wanted to get some sort of compensation for what we thought we're losing." How in the hell is that Microsoft's problem? Should Universal get $1 from BMW because you can play ripped CDs in it. Our how about $10 for every baby born, because we know they're ...
Meeting Organizer: Okay, we're here to decide on the name for our new music device. Office Rep: Microsoft Music Mobile 2006 Organizer: No, No. We're not going with the standard naming scheme. We need to be cool. Windows Rep: Vista Music Mobile 2006? Organizer: No, you're not following me here. Stay away from all of our previous names. Marketing: How about Microsoft iPod. iPods are cool. Lawyer: No. Xbox Rep: XBOXs are cool. How about the Microsoft xPod? Lawyer: No. Organizer: That would confuse our ...
To promote it's upcoming device ZUNE, Microsoft has released a new theme for Windows XP. The new theme is black theme, and ships with two wallpapers, normal one and widescreen wallapaper. You can download the new theme from here ...
Amazon.com: Zune 30 GB Digital Media Player (White): Electronics. Well, I have my order in. Even though I work for Microsoft, it doesn’t get me to the beginning of the line. Something you learn early here at Microsoft is that the “real” customer comes first. ...
Microsoft today released more details on the Zune in a Press Release. Microsoft's multimedia player labelled Zune will be available on the US market starting from 14th November 2006, just in time for the holidays. For the sum of $249.99 you can be the proud owner of a Zune. No word whatsoever on when the Zune will be available in Europe and how much we Europeans would have to pay for it.You can read the press release here:http://www.microsoft.c... ...
Zune's doing what it does best - Driving people CrAzY!! Zune made a cameo on The Ellen Degeneres Show - Gosh! the audience was in complete hysteria - Ellen then decided to give away a Zune to everyone in the Audience and did the crowd go crazy! Take a look for yourself... Chi-Lan Lieu demonstrated the Zune on the show and is everyone excited at the “Share” feature of this device! I loved the first comment on Gizmodo which said “...You'd have thought that Ellen just announced a cure ...
Microsoft has today announced officially their portable multimedia player named Zune. A while ago I already posted a picture and said that I really don't hope that this is how the final product would look like. Unfortunately it was! Anyway I don't like the design, it looks like a cheap rip-off of the iPod. I must admit that if I am looking for a portable player I prefer the looks over the features, with other words I don't give a damn about the features, the Zune is just ugly especially ...
Well, after all the hype of yet-another-Microsoft-viral... their latest teaser site, NotForNoobs.com, turned out to be a hype builder for a gaming mouse, and not for the Zune or the Xbox 360. The big news is that they've teamed up with Razer for this one, and the result is the Habu, a high-precision, 2,000 dpi laser mouse with interchangeable side button panels, high speed motion detection, and the ability to adjust DPI on the fly. Oh, and it's wired, too, doesn't sound like they're ...
Engadget has another news piece about the upcoming Zune. Feel free to read it here, but the cool part is below: you'll be allowed to "loan" songs to other users for a day, which they can proceed to buy from the Zune music store, and you'll also be able to stream music to a WiFi-enabled Xbox 360, but we're not sure if a hard drive will be required to pull it off. Say what you like about DRM, the thought of being able to loan someone a song for a single day (thus encouraging them to purchase it if ...
I never bought an iPod - not that I hate it - but I just don't feel like giving my money to Apple nor do I want Apple's sales to go up by 1. Not that I didn't observe/use the device - I played around with enough generations of iPods among work and friends to know whats good and whats bad about it - compared it with my Playsfor Sure devices for years. Today the time has come as we announce Zune, the wait will soon be over. All that speculation that Microsoft is working on an iPod rival are true - ...
Not sure if MS will listen to me but my #1 request for the Zune/Argo is that it should support the Compact Framework. I am very dissatissfied with the ipod, I mean the ipod in itself is the most closed system I have ever come across. You can not do anything with the content you store on the device other than what is in built. I do hope that Microsoft sees this shortcomming and makes the Zune a cool platform mobile content platform for which apps can be written for. Technorati : Argo, Zune Cross-posted ...
