After moving mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, we started getting reports from Exchange 2010 users that they could no longer manage distribution lists that they owned.  Users on Exchange 2003 did not have any issues managing their distribution lists.

When an Exchange 2010 user attempted to modify one or more distribution lists they owned, they would get the following error message.

Changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved.  You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.

distributionGroups

For more information and how to fix the problem, check out the article, How to Manage Groups that I already own in Exchange 2010, by Matt Byrd on The Microsoft Exchange Team Blog.

Please note after you create and modify the new RBAC role and assigning the new role to the Default Role Assignment Policy, you may have to wait awhile for the change to take effect before Exchange 2010 users can start modifying distribution lists they own.

How long is "a while"?

And is this still relevant to SP2? So far, no luck.
